Dueling Chefs to Appear at Open Harvest
Open Harvest is pleased to host Maggie Pleskac and Sean Carmichael, cookbook authors of Dueling Chefs A Vegetarian and a Meat Lover Debate the Plate on Tuesday January 22 at 7 pm at the co-op.
Released in November 2007, Dueling Chefs has created a delicious culinary spectacle as Maggie and Sean dish up their plates and playful banter at their parties and with each other.
"This is not your typical cookbook. It is an Iron Chef duel, a sort of tit for tat, a 'challenge then be challenged'...I give my one of my seasonal veggie recipes to Sean, and he retaliates carnivorously with a suitable match," Maggie writes in her introduction. Sean replies, "Don't be a vegetarian if you don't have to. You're missing out on the deliciousness, the gist, the marrow of life! Literally."
Maggie Pleskac is the chef and owner of Maggie's Vegetarian Wraps downtown at 8th and P Streets and on the Board of Directors at Open Harvest, as well as vice-president of Slow Foods Nebraska. Sean Carmichael is a graduate of the Art Institute of Colorado and Executive Chef at Chez Hay catering in Lincoln.
Join us as our Deli staff will prepare and sample out the recipes for Maggie's Black Bean and Sweet Potato Cakes and Sean's Salmon Cakes. Maggie and Sean will give a short presentation and take questions before signing copies of their book, which will be available for purchase at the event.
